The IODA OPTIMIST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2011,
the Optimist Worlds :
Astrid, Aurélie, Casper, Daan and Miel are the 5 Belgian Optimist sailors who are selected to participate at the IODA World Championship 2011 which will be sailed from December 30, 2011 till January 9, 2012 in Hawke’s Bay, Napier in New-Zealand. The Belgian team leaves on december 25 for a premilinary 4 days training session at the venue.
It ‘s the most important annual event of the International Optimist Sailboat Class (IODA), which covers about 160.000 optimist sailors worldwide. It ‘s one of the championships of the highest level of competition for youth sailing. Almost all olympic sailors once competed in this event. Each IODA member country can enter its top 5 sailors.
Boys and girls compete in the same fleet of about 240 sailors coming from about 50 countries all over the world. After 3 days of fleet racing, the national teams will compete for 2 days in the World Championship Team Racing. After only one lay day the championship continues with another 3 days of fleet racing, until January, 9.
